October 2024 Meeting Minutes

11/19/2024

Town of Dewey
October 8, 2024
Town Board Meeting Minutes

  1. Meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Chairman Duane Johnson.  Others present were Supervisors Steve Dahlstrom and Gary Crosby, Treasurer Donna Meeds, and David Coon, Clerk. Five town residents also attended.*
2. All parties present were notified to silence cell phones and other devices.
3. Public Comment: None.
4. The Minutes of the September 10, 2024, meeting were approved on a Crosby/Dahlstrom motion.
5. The Treasurers’ report was read and reviewed.
6. The Financial review was conducted.
7. The Town’s insurance coverage with Rural Mutual was reviewed with agent Carl Thomfohrda. Recommendations were made and adjustments made to the policy.
8. Mosaic Technology representative Deanna Westphal made a presentation regarding the possibility of running a fiber internet service in the Town. Mosaic is looking for community support as it seeks grants for the program. There would be no cost to the Town and it is hoped to possibly start on the project in 2026-2027 if all goes well.
9. Road Maintenance report by Mark Melton: North Bashaw Lake Road to be graveled. Parts have been ordered for equipment repair to be completed. There was a discussion about a hump on Sand Road and whether Monarch Paving will deal with it or if Mark needs to scrape it down. Mark will work on it. It was determined that a Fall Road Inspection was not necessary at this time. The cost of a box culvert and setting it for Town Hall Road could be $130,000, with the County paying half. A study could be done to see if there is a cheaper option such as several smaller culverts instead of a box culvert, but that could add to costs if only a new box culvert is approved in the study. Cody Helstern of Seal Coat Specialists offered to do crack filling on Old 70 and do work including seal coating on the Town Hall parking area without charge. The Board accepted his offer and thanked him for the donation to the Town.
10. Other Business: It was noted that there was, to date, no positive response to the inquiries to find a new Town Assessor.
11. Monthly correspondence reviewed.
12. Approval of monthly expenditures. Dahlstrom/Crosby motion to approve checks #10597 to #10606 in the amount of $14,702.58. Motion carried.
13. November 14, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. was set for the next Board Meeting.
14. The Meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.

• Jim & Esther Bernecker, Rudy & Sharon Kessler and Cody Helstern
