September 2024 Meeting Minutes

10/15/2024

Town of Dewey
September 10, 2024
Town Board Meeting Minutes

  1. Meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Chairman Duane Johnson.  Others present were Supervisors Steve Dahlstrom and Gary Crosby, Treasurer Donna Meeds, and David Coon, Clerk. Three town residents also attended.*
 2. All parties present were notified to silence cell phones and other devices.
3. Public Comment: None.
4. The Minutes of the August 7, 2024, meeting were approved on a Crosby/Dahlstrom motion.
5. The Treasurers’ report was read and, on a Dahlstrom/Crosby motion, was approved.
6. The Financial review was conducted.
7. Discussion related to an annual insurance review with Rural Mutual Insurance. The clerk will let the agent know that it would like him to attend the October meeting.
8. Discussion regarding Mosaic Technologies request to appear at the October meeting. The clerk will contact Mosaic to let them know they should plan to attend that meeting.
9. Road Maintenance report by Mark Melton: Williams Road was graveled. Mowing is ongoing. An auger is being replaced on the truck. The old truck is being used for some projects like hauling blacktop to save on wear and tear with the new truck. A discussion was had regarding the costs of replacing the bridge on Town Hall Road. A new box culvert would be about $75,000 plus additional costs to install, and it will be hard to find a contractor to do the work, with the Town paying half the cost. It would probably cost less to use another structure such as multiple culverts, but there may be a $13,000 study cost, of which the Town pays half, to see if another option is even possible.
10. Other Business: In follow-up to a couple of questions, it was noted that it is probably not possible to hand out a survey at an election polling place due to various legal restrictions. It is possible, though, with various legal hoops to jump through, to combine polling places with another town in the county for small, very low turnout elections. The clerk noted that Bashaw Lake had lost a lot of water recently. In a discussion with the County Land Services, it appears that an old beaver dam washed out.
11. Monthly correspondence reviewed.
12. Approval of monthly expenditures. Dahlstrom/Crosby motion to approve checks #10579 to #10595 in the amount of $9,645.27. Motion carried.
13. October 8, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. was set for the next Board Meeting.
14. The Meeting was adjourned at 7:39 p.m. on a Dahlstrom/Crosby motion.
